Later he completed residency at the University of Kentucky Family and Community Medicine Department where he served as Chief Resident from 2009-2010. Dr. Tovar is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has completed training in Medication Assisted Treatment for Opiate Use Disorders with 8 years of experience in this field.
His passion and understanding of addiction as it relates to this patient population has allowed him to help many patients not only regain their lives but also be able to pursue their goals in life by coaching them to experience a mindset change that focuses on solutions to every day problems and how to handle these stressors in a productive way.
